VENEERS
If you find that your teeth are chipped, badly shaped, misaligned, discolored, or you have gaps between your teeth, veneers could be the solution to correct the imperfections in your smile.
There are two types of veneers available:
1. Porcelain Veneers. Porcelain veneers are very thin “shells” of porcelain that will enhance your smile with a new shape and shade. In most cases, the veneers are made by your dentist by first removing a thin layer of your enamel. For some patients, however, the desired result requires no removal of enamel at all. Next, an impression is taken and sent to a professional dental laboratory, where the veneers are fabricated. Your doctor then carefully bonds the veneers to the front of your natural teeth to create a new, beautiful, white smile. Porcelain veneers are a stain resistant and long lasting option in cosmetic dentistry.
2. Chairside or Composite Veneers. Composite veneers are an alternative procedure to porcelain veneers. This type of veneer is created artistically with different shades of tooth colored composite or “filling” material. The composite is directly bonded onto the front surface of the teeth, allowing you to have the desired esthetic result the same day. While this is a good restorative option, it does not offer the same longevity and stain resistance that porcelain veneers do.
Your dentist will help you determine what the best option is for you to fit your esthetic and functional dental needs.
